Nepal is a country rich in popular tradition and religious festivals.
Although they live in difficult conditions, Nepalis always find a way to smile and celebrate life.
One of the most famous festivals celebrated in the country is surely the Holi, known as the festival of colors, the streets are filled with joyous crowds who dance while colored powder and water are ritually disbursed, serving as a reminder for the cooling monsoon days to come.
Two other important religious festivals are the Bisket Jatra, the Nepali new year celebration where huge crowds drag a chariot through the winding backstreets of Bhaktapur, and the Rato Machhendranath that is a spectacular procession of a temple chariot, culminating in the showing of the sacred vest of the god Machhendranath.
